Guide to Creating a USB for Windows Installation

Creating a bootable USB drive to install the Windows operating system on your computer is a very simple and useful method. In this guide, you will learn how to create a bootable USB drive for Windows installation step by step.

Necessary materials

  • A USB memory with at least 8 GB capacity

  • Windows 10/11 ISO file (you can download it from Microsoft's official website)

  • A computer for Windows

  • A tool like Rufus or Windows Media Creation Tool

Step 1: Download Windows 10/11 ISO File

First, you need to download the Windows 10/11 ISO file from Microsoft's official website. This file contains the installation files for the Windows operating system.

  1. Go to Microsoft's Windows 10/11 download page .

  2. Download Windows Media Creation Tool by clicking the "Download Tool Now" button.

  3. Download the ISO file by running the tool.

Step 2: Download Rufus or Windows Media Creation Tool

There are two popular tools you can use to create a bootable USB drive: Rufus and Windows Media Creation Tool. You can use either tool, but we will use Rufus in this guide because it is faster and more user-friendly.

  1. Go to Rufus' official website and download the tool.

Step 3: Preparing the USB Drive

  1. Run Rufus.

  2. Select your USB memory from the "Device" section.

  3. Select the Windows ISO file you downloaded from the "Boot selection" section.

  4. Select either "MBR" or "GPT" from the "Partition scheme" section. (GPT is chosen for most modern computers, MBR for older systems.)

  5. Select "NTFS" as "File system".

  6. Leave the "Cluster size" setting as default.

  7. Give the "Volume label" a name of your choice (for example, "WindowsSetup").

  8. Click the "Start" button and wait for the process to complete.

Step 4: Windows Installation

Once your USB drive is ready, you can install Windows operating system using this USB drive.

  1. Turn off your computer.

  2. Insert the USB memory into your computer.

  3. Turn on your computer and press the required key (usually F2, F12, Del or Esc) to enter the BIOS/UEFI settings.

  4. Set the USB drive as the first priority from the Boot menu.

  5. Restart your computer and complete the installation by following the instructions when you see the Windows installation screen.
